Electricity (from the New Latin ēlectricus, "amber-like") is a general term that encompasses a variety of phenomena resulting from the presence and flow of electric charge. These include many easily recognizable phenomena, such as lightning and static electricity, but in addition, less familiar concepts, such as the electromagnetic field and electromagnetic induction. In general usage, the word "electricity" is adequate to refer to a number of physical effects. In scientific usage, however, the term is vague, and these related, but distinct, concepts are better identified by more precise terms:
Electrical phenomena have been studied since antiquity, though advances in the science were not made until the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Practical applications for electricity however remained few, and it would not be until the late nineteenth century that engineers were able to put it to industrial and residential use. The rapid expansion in electrical technology at this time transformed industry and society. Electricity's extraordinary versatility as a source of energy means it can be put to an almost limitless set of applications which include transport, heating, lighting, communications, and computation. The backbone of modern industrial society is, and for the foreseeable future can be expected to remain, the use of electrical power. GNU Free Documentation License Can an electrical graduate work without being licensed? Q. My son recently graduated from a 2-year electrician program, he received his diploma and has been doing side work (electrical) until a union or electric company/business hires him. He received a phone call today threatening him that he could lose the option to become a journeyman and become licensed (in 3 years). Please only post legit answers. Yes or no is not going to help. Thanks. Asked by sunriseandlanky - Tue Jul 14 22:26:57 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Assuming you're son is working in the US, he has to be licensed in order to practice. For a recent graduate this means working under a master electrician for several years then taking the journeyman's exam. After he becomes a journeyman he is free to work for different master electricians, but always master electricians. After several years of this then he can become a licensed master electrician. Becoming a master is optional, only required if he plans on doing electrical work on his own, not for a company. This scenario applies for pure electrician work, i.e. work for an electrical firm contracted to different businesses. I do not believe licensure is required if he works for a single business as an electrician and all of his work… [cont.] Answered by skraith - Wed Jul 15 16:25:25 2009 Is the course work of electrical engineering and computer engineering almost same? Q. Is the course work of electrical engineering and computer engineering almost same? I mean like the classes one should take in electrical engineering and computer engineering are same? And what is the difference between computer science and computer engineering? Is it just like computer science is software and computer engineering is hardware or something else? Asked by desi girl - Sun Dec 6 12:30:17 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. for your first question , the answer is NO . the course work is the same for all branches of engineering for the 1st semester . during second sem , there would be a couple of common subjects . after 3rd sem , there would be almost no common subjects (except electives . and , some subjects like Digital Signal Processing . ) . electrical engg has subjects related to electricity , electronics , control systems ,etc . computer egg has subjects mainly related to hardware and software . you can see that there is no similarity . As for computer science and computer engg, the former is a science course and the latter is an engineering course . Both have hardware and software , but the approach varies . engineering courses can fetch you a job… [cont.] Answered by doubt - Sun Dec 6 12:40:21 2009 is there a electrical extension cord that only works when the sun is shining?
Q. I have a above ground swimming pool and a wonderful homemade solar heater, but the heater will not work unless the pump is running. I would like the pump to run when the sun is out.
