Then you must use a solder flux past on the copper pipe to prevent the copper from oxidizing when you heat it. Apply it with a small brush around the pipe end to be joined to the fitting. This will allow the solder to flow into the fitting. Also it is best to heat the fitting rather than the pipe as this will draw the solder up into the joint. If you can, solider your connection so the solder will flow down into the joint. Be careful not to put to much solder into the joint or if the threaded end is close to the soldered end it could flow into the threads and you will need to start over with a new fitting. Copper, Silver and Gold are all very similar chemically. A butane torch is used with plumbing because of the amount of metal involved, but jewelry is small, and a soldering iron might work here. There are many kinds of solder. Silver solder is probably the best to use because it is harder than tin/lead solders. Avoid cadmium solders because cadmium is toxic.
