Check out these 2 pages at my site for lots of ways to make things with wire (twisting, and just all kinds of things not involving special equipment), as well as different types of wire you might use, etc.: hth, Diane B. Now we are trying to fix it. We bought the pieces and I need to solder a copper fitting onto a copper pipe. I am having problems getting the solder to "stick" to the pipe what am I doing wrong? Asked by bb - Sun Mar 22 18:25:04 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. You need to clean and sand the copper pipe. Then you must use a solder flux past on the copper pipe to prevent the copper from oxidizing when you heat it. Apply it with a small brush around the pipe end to be joined to the fitting. This will allow the solder to flow into the fitting. Also it is best to heat the fitting rather than the pipe as this will draw the solder up into the joint. If you can, solider your connection so the solder will flow down into the joint. Be careful not to put to much solder into the joint or if the threaded end is close to the soldered end it could flow into the threads and you will need to start over with a new fitting. Q. I know gold has a low melting temperature in comparison to other metals. The strap on my girlfriends necklace snapped cleanly off right where it was welded to the pendant. If I use a soldering iron/pen, would I be able to fuse it back to itself? Asked by Xen - Fri Mar 20 12:44:58 2009 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments A. Gold is as soft as lead, but melts much higher, over 1000 degrees. However, it can be soldered because copper water pipe is soldered all the time. Copper, Silver and Gold are all very similar chemically. A butane torch is used with plumbing because of the amount of metal involved, but jewelry is small, and a soldering iron might work here. There are many kinds of solder. Silver solder is probably the best to use because it is harder than tin/lead solders. Avoid cadmium solders because cadmium is toxic. Remember to apply flux to the work before soldering it. Answered by Roger S - Fri Mar 20 12:58:12 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Welding and Soldering" See also:
