Q. I run a small building company , recently my client went to B&Q to choose some materials and gave me a list of the items they wanted me to install in there kitchen. I purchased the items and then installed them as they knew the price if the items I only earned money for the installation, since we have had a problem with one of the items and my client has said I need to sort it out as they purchased the items from me. What percentage should I add to the purchase price of materials I supply clients to cover time and losses if an item breaks.

A. Your best bet in this situation would be to get the client to purchase the materials themselves since they have specified exactly what they want. You then charge them for the installation and avoid any future problems. This is quite common.
