Can I safely fix my barbeque grill with galvanized sheet metal without having to worry about toxins?
Q. I have a Char Broil barbeque propane grill that has a piece of metal sheet between the burner and the grill and helps distribute the heat better. The sheet metal has rusted out and needs to be replaced. My question; is it safe to replace this piece of sheet metal with a piece of galvanized sheet metal (which is normally used for roof flashing)? My concern is that the galvanized sheet metal may release some toxins when subjected to high temperatures and release toxins to the food?

A. Propane burns at 1977 C, and the melting point of the zinc that is probably your galvanizing agent is only 419.53 C. It's not safe to use zinc galvanized steel in this application. Plain sheet steel should be fine.

laser cutting?
Q. There is a type of folder that is used to fold sheet metal of between .5mm.and .95mm The folder is called a long folder. The folder is often 8mts long and folds the flashings that make your roof water proof The sheet metal used is usually 1.2mts wide and the average a flashing is only 300mm wide The problem is that after a flashing is folded it cannot be cut with out major distortion If there were a laser that could travel the full length of the folder and cut the metal flashing off the flat sheet then we could automate the whole process But there is another problem in that it must be fast enough that there is little or no damage to the painted surface of the roofing iron. There are folders out there that can fold complete flashings with… [cont.]

A. Lasers that powerful are too dangerous to use in the open, they have to be in a closed room with no windows. The problem is that even a momentary reflection off of a surface that hits someone's eye for a fraction of a second is enough to permanently damage vision. They are used in closed rooms, with limited access and everyone wearing special goggles. The tools that fold the metal is called a "break".

A. I love it, your writing is beautiful. I can picture myself there perfectly. I spotted a few minor spelling errors, one, near the end, was the use of "than", it should have been "then". Good work. Keep going.
